“A Miracle Friendship”

Ryusuke Hasama, co-founder of StudyCompass, met Mr. Bunthoeun in 2010 during a trip to Southeast Asia. At that time Mr. Bunthoeun was the executive director and also the head teacher of the school he worked for before. Ryusuke was very touched by the director’s efforts to help the local children receive a quality education. Since then, Ryusuke and Mr. Bunthoeun have been keeping in close contact with each other.

Tomohiro Nakata and Masashi Yamashita were inspired by the idea of ECCS after Ryusuke came back to Japan from the second visit to Cambodia. Sharing Bunthoeun’s vision and mission, Tomohiro, Masashi and Ryusuke visited ECCS in 2013. Then Tomohiro and Ryusuke founded StudyCompass to support the school.

They may not have enough power or sufficient resources to drastically change the harsh Cambodian reality. Regardless of the distance between Japan and Cambodia, consolidating our position and pushing on, step-by-step, ECCS and StudyCompass will do everything we can to help these children achieve their brighter future.
